In class, we recently discussed the United States efforts to build a fence along the 2,000 mile border with Mexico. Presently there is 683 miles of fencing in place and plans to continue building the fence. Designed to decrease the amount of people entering the United States illegally, this project is highly controversial. Some believe the fence is needed while others vehemently oppose the building of a fence.
1) Do you agree with the building of a fence along Mexican-U.S. border? Why or Why not?
2)How would you propose to stop people from entering the United States illegally along the Mexican-U.S. border?

I don't agree with the building of the great wall of mexico. It goes against everything our country stands for. we are supposed to be an open welcoming nation. the wall sort of ruins that.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should try as hard as we can to make illegal immigrants legal. that way we dont need a wall.
I believe that the building of a fence along the Mexican-U.S. border tarnishes the United States' reputation as being an open and welcoming nation that is tolerant of all people and religions. In order to stop people from entering the United States illegally along the Mexican-U.S. border, I would require all foreigners to acquire a visa from their home nation's government that would allow them to eventually become a legal immigrant in the United States. These foreigners must also complete legal documents from both their home nation and the United States in order to determine whether or not the visa is in proper hands. At the Mexican-U.S. border, the visa of a foreigner would be scanned. If that foreigner does not have a visa, he or she would be arraigned and questioned by the United State government. After x years, the visa would expire and the process of completing legal documents would have to be repeated.

I agree with Mike's solution about the wall. But I don't think the visa should expire. Why work really hard for a visa just to have it taken away 10 years later. thats just asking for a ton of illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with noah about the recession. it's crazy to spend a lot of money on a wall that ruins our country's open reputation instead of helping sick people get health insurence or paying off some of our debts.
ReplyDelete1) I disagree with the building of the wall along the U.S.- Mexico border beacause like Noah and Camille said it is totally opposite of what our nation strives to have as an " first impression". Also like Noah said it costs a ton of money that we do not have.
ReplyDelete2) Truthfully there really isn't anything that is going to stop/ prevent illegal immigrants from entering the United States and while they shouldn't be here they also do things that helps our economy and other aspects of our country that are quiite benefitial.
1)America has a pretty bad image already with the rest of the world. We are the world police, we think that what we have to say is what should go and we do anything within our power, which is a lot of power, to do what we think is right. So no i don't think building a wall is in our best interest.
ReplyDelete2)They will find a way there always is one. Where there is a law there is loophole ask any lawyer. Ther is really nothing we can do that will completly stop them from coming, without an invasion of property and body and a bad image for ourselves.
I agree with Maryam they help us out do you really feel like working in a sweatshop? Didn't think so. We need to appreciate what thay do for us and make it easier to get a visa and/or become a citizen. They do a lot, where else would you get chinese food?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Noah our money is wasted on a wall which ultimatly fail its job. even with cameras we spend even more money on the people who have to track them down. WE ARE IN A RECESSION PEOPLE!
ReplyDeletei think we should build the fence because it would decrease the amount of immigrants we get from Mexico each year.Also there would be more jobs if we decrease the amount of immigrants we will have more jobs. All i would do is continue the building of the wall to stop the immigration.
ReplyDelete1) I think we shouldn't continue building the fence. That just ruins what our country stands for, we're supposed to let everyone in. And before they start worrying about keeping the Mexicans out, they should probably work on the drug problem so the immigrants will know that they can't make money off of that.

i beleive that the U.s board should have like a lot of tracking device chips and a army to guard the U.S/Mexican boarder.This way if a Mexican or any immagrant gets passed the Army they are in a known location or at least they country has an idea of where the immagrants are.

The United States is already in a ton of debt the most in the world to be exact and yet we are using the money that we can be paying are debt rather than building a wall that cost a ton.. which also leads back into the point of showing or making other countrys beleive the U.S is selfish in a way.

ReplyDeletei think that they shouldn't build the fence going around the border of the us and mexico because it ruins all that the us stands for like freedom and liberty. so the fence dividing up the two countries would be against what our country stands for. i don't think that there is a way for us to keep any mexicans or illegal immigrants out of the us cause they probably will find another way into the country.

i agree with noah too about there being too much debt already in our country so building the fence would just put us in even more debt and we don't need all that money.
i think that we should extend the fence along the u.s./mexican border. one beacause it would stop more and more mexicans/illegal immagrants from entering the united states. also it would help with the economy, because the it would stop the illegal immagrants from coming into our contry and taking the jobs that we could have and be doing to make money. the illegal immagrants do not pay taxes, so they are basically living here for free. it may seem like the jobs that they are doing maybe the jobs that some/most of the people living here legaly might not want to do but still people here that need money will basically take anyjob that they can get.
ReplyDeletei dissagree with noah because sure we already have enough debt in our contry but the fence that we build doesnt have to be all fancy and stuff u can just make a basic barb-wire fence that is about 10ft or so high. but it shouldnt be so cheep or somehting that anyone could just put a whole in, climb, or walk right through for example make it electic.
i agree with gavin on the fact that we should have the wall to keep us all safe. also it would reduce deaths caused by drugs and other grand involed activities. the fence should be electric and taller and security cameras will be a great idea if we can afford good quality but not so expesive. if we dont get the cameras then mayb installing something so that if someone does cross it or touches it or breaks it will send a notice to a computer where it will keep track of the shock waves from the electict fence.

I disagree with Camille when she says that we should try our best to make illegal immigrants legal. Once an immigrant enters the United States illegally, the U.S. should not be responsible for allowing that immigrant to become a legal immigrant. Instead, that immigrant should be deported back to his or her home nation, where he or she would be ordered to complete legal documents from both the U.S. and that particular country.
ReplyDeleteNoah is absolutely correct- the United States is currently in one of the worst recessions in its history. Building a long fence along the U.S.-Mexico border would result in this country being in even more debt. Although some form of security should be established along the border, it should definitely not be as expensive as a fence. I believe scanners (as I said above) and security cameras taping all immigrants who cross the border will do.
i think that they should build the wall because it would help keep illegal immigrants from coming over here.

I believe the wall is neccesary. Too many illegal immigrants are entering the U.S. However I do think Camille made a good point in saying that it goes against everything we believe in, but we can't just let everyone come into our nation.

I agrees with Gavin. If we make the fence electrical it will make it harder for the immigrants to come into the U.S. I also agree with Noah as well. We shouldn't have to waste a ton of money to build a wall to keep mexicans out. I feel that we should find a cheaper way to build the wall
