The five most interesting things I found were:

2. How map makers thought that california was an island
3. How so many sailors searched for the northwest passage when it didn't exist
4. How they had to sail north toward Japan and just to get to a part of california because of winds that would pull them towards central america
5. How so many ships had wrecked over that period of time without a modern navigation

2. Juan Cabrillo, one famous spanish explorer broke his arm on a stony beach on 1 of the california islands and died 3 months later do to gangrene infection.
3. Alot of spanish ships shipwrecked around coasts unknown to them.
4. The spanish claimed most of the western coast of the americas.
5. Spanish spread christianity through native tribes in the americas.

The five most interesting things i learned:
ReplyDelete1. California was mapped as an island for a long time and even though someone told them that it was connected they still thought it was an island
2. some voyages took a really long time and now they are really quick
3. Many sailors died from scurvy which was a disease from lack of vitamin c in their diet.
4. The reason why most of the caribbean and latin America speaks Spanish and are Christians because Spain settled over there.
5. Sailors looked for the NW passage for a very long time.

2. All of the sailors drew the maps thinking California was it's own separate island.
3. It took 8-10 weeks to get from Mexico to the Philippines, but took at least 6 months to get back because of the winds so they had to sail up to Japan then come down to Mexico.
4. More than 50% of the crew would die before returning to Spain.
5. Scurry was a huge problem for sailors.

2. they believe that California was an island.
3. they sailors had to go to extreme measures if they where suffering from scurvy.
4. the Spanish where big in spreading the religion of Christianity.
5. they lead many expidition's to find the NW passage but they kept failing everytime.
