ReplyDelete1) the cast system is very important to them, and they take it very seriously. ex. killing your own child for marring out side their cast.
2) Cows are sacred to them.
3) Hindu people belive in many gods
4) Hindu people belive in reincarnation, which means that you keep being reborn untill you achive your Dharma.
5) because hindues belive in reincarnation, Hindu people are often very kind to living things. many Hindu's are vegitarians

PART 1:
ReplyDelete-the most interesting thing I learned was the holidays they celebrate
-the caste system is important to them and they do not take it lightly
-they believe in reincarnation and if you don't fulfill your dharma you won't be reincarnated
-cows are sacred because they give them milk and other things
-most hindus are vegetarians because they believe that every living thing has a soul

ReplyDeleteI think that it is surprising that even a small amount of Hindus would kill their own children for defying the caste system.
I think that the Hindu belief of reincarnation is interesting because that would mean that sometime in the future my dog could possibly be a person!
I thought that the Hindu holiday Holi is interesting because I think it would be a really fun holiday to celebrate, since it includes so much color.
I think that the Mahabharata is very interesting because it is so long, and it is interesting to think about how long it could have taken someone to write.
I think that it is surprising and interesting that cows are sacred to Hindus since Americans eat cows all the time.
Questions I have about Hinduism:
If a Hindu adopt a child from a different caste would the child still be from the same caste or take the same caste as their new parents?

ReplyDeleteHindus can't change their caste before they are reincarnated unless there is an inter-caste marriage, which does not happen that often.

-I thinnk its interesting how some hindus take the caste system so seriously that they would kill family members and other hindus arent as strict
-I think that the holidays/festivals in India sound like take them very seriously unlike some americans who dont take christianity very seriously
-I didnt know that the hindus had a series of sacred texts called the Vedas

! im suprised that everybody is labeled and cant be treated normally because what level they are in in the caste system. Im also think its cool how For festivals in india they throw colored powder on eachother and have lots of fun. Looks like more fun than americans. I really got anything memorized and i know that if i need anyhelp its in my binder cause i have all my notes and work written down there.

ReplyDelete-I find reincarnation very interesting and how it works a little confusing
-I am surprised that being a vegetarian has to do with Hinduism because i didnt think that it was linked to religion in any way
-I also never thought of yoga as anything but a way to excercise but when it was introduced as a way to become one with god i was surprised
-I personally think that its shocking that people of a low caste are not permitted to learn or teach the vedas
-I am fascinated by the Hindu holidays and the ways they are celebrated, especially Holi

Part 1: -Rural families killing their kids because they are in love with someone from a different caste is shocking.
ReplyDelete-Hindus referring to Hinduism as a monotheistic religion is interesting because they think that all the gods and goddesses are of brahman.
-The fact that you can never move out of your caste in your life is surprising.
-Hinduism starting over 5000 years ago in the Indus Valley is surprising.
-The Vedas surviving all this time is shocking.
Part 2: -If Hindus practice ahimsa (NON-violence), what about those extremeist Hindus that attack Muslims?
-How do they determine a caste of a child from a intercaste marriage?
-Does the Hindu religion have any specific leader (like the Pope, or the Dalai Lama)?
-If cows are sacred to Hindus, what do McDonald's serve in India? :)

I found it surprising how many holidays and festivals they have.
I found it shocking how strict and hardcore their beliefs are about inter-caste marriages.
I found it interesting that they have all their rituals and prayers and hymns in one book.
I liked how they believe that there is one god that takes many forms.

ReplyDeleteyour goal is to fufill your Dharma, so you should try to achieve it. It you will keep being reincarnated untill your Dharma is fufilled.
Part 1; five interesting facts:
ReplyDelete- It is the oldest surviving religion, has been practiced since around 3000b.c.
- Hinduism uses the idea of reincarnation, or rebirth of the soul into another body after death.
- The most scared animal is the cow, because it provides milk, plows soil/fields of plants, and pulls around carts of goods.
- Holi is a holiday celebrated in the Hindu religion. It is the celebration of color. The way it is celebrated is by throwing colored powder or colored water at all the citizens around you. I think of it as the ultimate paintball game.
- I found the caste system shocking. the way it is so strict and that there is no possible way of moving up or down the system. Also, the hatred towards inter-caste marriages had me shocked; how the parents killed their children just because they fell in love with each other.
Part 2; Questions still left:
- How many relationships have been ruined due to the caste system? How many have caused death?
- How does the Brahman split into so many parts? How does that work? How can you tell the difference? Are the different "gods" Brahman's different emotions/moods?
Part 3; Comments/replies to classmates:
- Ricardo P; The religious texts came from two religions by combining the parts of each religion that were Hindu and wrote them into the Vedas.
- rachelc; I agree with your question about the marriage outside of religon. How strict are they with inter-religion marriages?
