5 of the most interesting things that I have learned about the Ottoman Empire:
ReplyDelete1. Sullyman would have christian boys taken from their homes to become elite warriors to battle.
2. Unlike most religions Sullyman allowed his people to practice whatever religion that they wanted as long as they payed taxes
3. The Ottoman empire's army had gun powdered guns and cannons against other armys that had only swords and arrows
4. Sullyman was depressed so he went into battle with his soldiers and died in his tent, his death was hidden from his soldiers for the rest of the battle so that they would not get discouraged.
5. Constantinople was conquered by the Ottomans getting in through an open gate in the walls of constantinople
Five things I have found interesting were:

2. The Ottomans religion was Islamic.
3. By the late 1500's, the Ottomans controlled approximately 1/3 of Europe.
4. In the 1450's the Ottomans set their eyes on the city Constantinople, which was the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
5. The Ottomans were originally from Central Asia.
Questions:
1. Why could the Ottomans leader, Mehmet 2 only raise 5,000 troops against the Byzantine Empire?
What were the christian slave boys called?

2.The Ottomans get their name fron the first sucessful sultan named Osman.
3.It was hard to conquer Constantinople because it's walls were high, thick and tough to breach.
4.By thee late 1500s the Ottomans controlled one third of Europe.
5.The religion of the Ottomans was Islam.
Questions I still have about the Ottomans:
1.Why did they keep Suleymans death a secret
2.Why did they want to change the name from Constantinople to Istanbul?
3. How did Suleyman die?

3.Suleyman, one of the leaders of the ottoman empire died from an illness while during a battle trying to take over a hungarian stronghold.

2.Constantinople became Istanbul
3.the Turks allowed everyone to practice whatever religion they wanted as long as they paid taxes
4.Suleyman the Magnificent sparked a period similar to the renaissance in the Muslim world with new art and literature
5.the Janisaries got to use all types of new weapons mostly muskets and cannons.

After they conquered Constantinople what did they do with the prisoners? Did they make them Join the army? Did they Kill Them? what happened to them?
